Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee (rahimahullah) said,
“My ruling regarding the people of theological rhetoric is that they should be beaten with palm branches and shoes and led around the markets and it (should) be said: This is the punishment of those who have abandoned the Book and the Sunnah and taken to theological rhetoric.”
