Laylatul Qadr – Coinciding with Thursday/Friday Night

Yesterday, Thursday, the 21st night of Ramadan, coincided with the night of Friday. This means it was both an odd night and a Friday night! Very likely, the Night of Laylatul Qadr!

Ibn Rajab narrated from Ibn Hubayrah that he said:
“If the night of Friday coincides with an odd night, it is more likely than others to be Laylat al-Qadr.”

Ibn Taymiyyah also said:
“If the night of Friday falls on one of the odd nights of the last ten nights, it is more probable to be Laylat al-Qadr, by Allah’s will.”

Furthermore, Sheikh Abdulaziz Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that some scholars said:
“If an odd night falls on a Friday night, it is more confirmed and closer to being Laylat al-Qadr.”

Therefore, we should give special attention to these nights, especially this particular night, and strive to have our share of devotion and effort in doing good.

The above information highlights the significance of the 21st night of Ramadan coinciding with Thursday night, leading into Friday, and suggests that such a combination increases the likelihood of it being Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree). This perspective is rooted in the views of several Islamic scholars.

Scholarly Opinions:
1. Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali:
• He quoted Ibn Hubayrah as saying: “If the night of Friday coincides with one of the odd-numbered nights during the last ten, then it is more likely than others to be Laylat al-Qadr.”

2. Ibn Taymiyyah:
• He mentioned that Laylat al-Qadr should be sought in the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd-numbered nights. He also noted that the definition of “odd nights” can vary depending on whether one counts from the beginning or the end of the ten nights.
3. Shaykh Abdulaziz Ibn Baz:
• He stated that if an odd night coincides with a Friday night, it is more likely to be Laylat al-Qadr.

Conclusion:

The message aligns with the views of respected scholars who believe that when an odd-numbered night coincides with the night preceding Friday (Thursday night), it increases the likelihood of it being Laylat al-Qadr. However, it’s important to note that the exact occurrence of Laylat al-Qadr remains uncertain, and Muslims are encouraged to seek it during all the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd-numbered ones.

Therefore, giving special attention to such nights, as suggested in the message, is in line with scholarly recommendations.
