Imam Ibn Baz’s Remarkable Humanitarian Gesture

[21:12, 03/09/2024] Skk A. R Shakir: Sheikh Ibn Baz’s Remarkable Humanitarian Gesture at the Islamic University of Medina.

The students studied/studying in Medina will cry after reading this.

In his memoirs, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Al-Turki, (حَفِظَهُ اللهُ), mentioned that he attended a meeting of the Higher Council of the Islamic University of Madinah, where he was one of 30 prominent figures from the Islamic world.

Sheikh Ibn Baz, (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ), chaired the council on behalf of King Fahd (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ), and Sheikh Abdul Mohsin Al-Abbad, (حَفِظَهُ اللهُ), was the university’s vice president.

The agenda included: “A request for the university’s support in sending back the families of the students who arrived with them without the university’s approval, as required by the regulations.”

During the discussion, Sheikh Ibn Baz, (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ), tried to influence the council to prevent the families’ return to their countries, but the attendees were not convinced. The discussion continued until the time for the noon prayer arrived. Sheikh Ibn Baz, (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ), suggested they go for prayer and then continue to seek a resolution, if Allah wills.

When the meeting resumed after the prayer, Sheikh Ibn Baz turned to Sheikh Al-Abbad and asked why they were insistent on sending the students’ families back. Sheikh Al-Abbad explained that the university did not have the financial resources to support their needs and feared the students might resort to begging or engage in activities that would affect their studies.

Sheikh Ibn Baz (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) then asked an unexpected question: what was the estimated amount needed for the families’ expenses and housing? Sheikh Al-Abbad and the university secretary replied that it was 3 million riyals, which was not available.

Sheikh Ibn Baz, (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ), struck his chest with his hand and said, “I will cover it. I am responsible for it and will pay it to the university.” At that moment, everyone was astonished and lowered their heads, with some even crying.

Sheikh Ibn Baz’s action was a memorable humanitarian gesture that solved a significant problem for the students. May Allah have mercy on him and raise his rank in Paradise. (آمِيْنُ)

[21:12, 03/09/2024] Shk A. R Shakir: Absolutely beautiful… This is why he is an Imaam, in the real sense of the word, i.e. someone that is followed; even the leaders follow him. SubhaanAllaah. The people in the meeting were not on the same level as Imaam Abdul Aziz Ibn Baaz Rahimahullaah.
